Hello new friends!
Dec. 9th, 2012 01:11 pmHello to anyone who found me through
kouredios's friending meme! Please feel free to hang out, comment, lurk, whatever you please. I post far too infrequently, but I'm trying to change that.
In that spirit:
The thing that amuses me most about this tweet, besides Hallsy's terrible chirping skills,

is that it reminds me that the World Juniors selection camp was for-real front page news in Canada (below the fold, I will grant you), including an enormous section on how amazing it's going to be if Nuge plays, and it hasn't even happened yet. I mention this because I feel that the non-Canadian hockey people on my flist should know how thoroughly Canada can live up to its stereotypes. *g*
Elementary is still interesting, though I find myself failing to keep up properly and ending up watching two or three episodes at once at intervals. I think it's improving though. The plots seem to be getting better and Joan is getting a ton more to do. They're getting better at longform character arcs too. Joan's addict ex was kind of a big dump of HERE IS AN EXPLANATION OF HER PAST, but it was also a pretty good step in her general character arc of becoming a better investigator, even if the mystery she was solving wasn't the level of complexity of the A-plot. PLUS they tied it into the arc about Sherlock learning to respect boundaries, which is my favourite arc (can you tell I'm an introvert? ;D)
It's still not a great show, but it's a pretty good show, and it gives me mysteries without being hideously offensive. It's a low standard, but I was pleased that when they succumbed to a terrible plot cliche about a dude sexually abusing a women and filming it, they didn't show ANY of the film, and only had two seconds of flashback that was mostly centred on her unhappy face. Plus I love that Joan is in pyjamas a ton, and they're never sexy pyjamas, even when Sherlock does things like suggest that she shower while he's in the bathroom, which could be a much more unpleasantly innuendo-y line. I just want them to be friends, frankly, at least for a good long time.

Date: 2012-12-10 01:19 pm (UTC)Oh, no worries! I'm awful at making it clear. I thought I had crossposting notifications on both sites, but it turned out lj was eating them... I like DW better, but don't worry about it too much. :)

Date: 2012-12-11 12:25 am (UTC)and yeah, so much about the draft process makes me vaguely and not so vaguely uncomfortable - especially the combine. It makes me feel not so bad about comps though :/

Date: 2012-12-11 12:36 am (UTC)Ugh, yes, the combine. D: I can't watch it, it makes me cringe too much, but I secretly think of it as the puking jailbait special after the primary themes of the clips of it that people link...

Date: 2012-12-11 01:11 pm (UTC)ever since I went to that lecture by the NHLPA lady about the NHL in relation to labour law, that sort of thing keeps jumping out at me, like, here is a job where they are totally allowed to take detailed measurements of your body, to poke and prod you before you get hired!
