Fringe 4x21
May. 5th, 2012 07:39 pmWhaaaaaaaat? I'm incoherent with flails! That was really solidly enjoyable, if crazy as hell. Things that were excellent:
-Walter being so sad at St. Clairs. Very well done, if terribly, terribly sad.
-Walter fixing things with Cortexiphan and pig brains! Oh, this show, make less sense. <3
-Astrid being a competent FBI agent with full training! (Though I will be very angry if they kill her off! On notice, show!)
-Olivia saving people with psychic powers TWICE. The nanites weren't a super surprise because we've already seen her do electronics, but being able to control other people is news to me! I figured her powers were supposed to go off in some way during that confrontation given that Bell and Jones seemed aware she'd used them on the nanites and Bell was pretty pleased with that, but I thought she'd need to use them to disable the antennae.
-I really enjoyed all the procedure stuff! I like that there is insurance for people who volunteer to test Walter's science, though I have my suspicions about the veracity of this plot point. I liked that Olivia does think it's totally legitimate for people to be suspicious of her for having a gun on a rooftop at night, even if she is FBI and can prove it. (I feel like this point shouldn't be so pleasant, but I think there are too US many cop shows that get all "how could anyone doubt us? look what you caused because I had to stop!" which is the same damnfool attitude that leads to thinking crazed gunmen are easy to tell apart from the sane people shooting at crazed gunmen.)
-I was expecting Bell to show up at some point this season because he was in that flashforward twenty years ep, but I didn't call this one until Walter got up from the nanites and went all "I recognise these nanites!" which is where we were supposed to get it, I think. So well done Fringe for relearning how long to hold on suspense for!
-Jones dying was sort of unexpected, though I guess a lot of people have been thinking that he wasn't really behind the conspiracy because it seemed too big. And I suppose this explains why red!Nina was involved, though not really, unless she knew red!Bell and I thought he was supposed to have died way earlier? Unless I am misremembering from eps that I haven't seen in ages, which is rather likely!
-Yay for acknowledging that there are people involved in the terrible accidents that Jones, etc. cause and that there is a real cost to all these people who die all the damn time. It was nice to see, even if the execution was a little on the nose.
But mostly I am just sitting here going "aaaaaaaah, Astrid! Nooooo!" until next week.
