This was delightful! DW does do so much better sometimes when it takes one single idea and runs with it and Dinosaurs! In! Space! is a pretty great start. Rory's dad was lovely, and Nefertiti was rather fun.

I love that the Ponds are responding the way I would to a science fiction universe. Rory knows that future medicine has made some advancements and he wants some of that because it makes sense. Amy works out how other kinds of computer systems work because why not have a go, and why wouldn't she have picked up something about how to interpret other technology? It's just so practical, and I love practicality in the face of extreme experiences.

I was a little worried at the bit where Amy tells Nefertiti that she is also a queen, but it was only one line and not a set up for an embarrassing moment of revelation, and I love that Amy is super excited to meet Nefertiti. I really like that consistent character note that Amy may not have been the best student in the world, but she was pretty into history, especially ancient history, and is happy to fangirl the people she used to think were really cool. (I ignore all historical inaccuracies in Doctor Who, because why make myself angry? It's all hand-wavey plots anyway.)

I really hope that Moffat is actually willing to let the Ponds go on like this, not around the Doctor all the time (which lets him have other adventures and other companions and Pond-less eps if necessary), but still clearly in his life, but he'll probably make a big gesture out of it because that seems to be the sort of thing he does. It's just so believeable though that they really do have things on Earth they care about as well and that they don't want to leave, even if they do want to go on adventures sometimes as well. I prefer this version of Amy and Rory to last week's. I saw a fair bit of meta about how believeable other watchers found their fight, and I can see where they're coming from, but I just don't really want to watch that, you know? There are an awful lot of shows where I can watch people argue about whether or not they can/want to have children, and if it's in my sci fi, I'd like them to actually relate it to the science fiction, which wouldn't exactly be difficult in this case, except that the writers seem to think that they wrapped up River's storyline instead of just ending it.

But mostly I just want to make flailhands over Rory and his daaaad (people being quite different, but still obviously fond is my favourite), and dinosaurs (especially triceratopses fetching balls! and people stunning animals rather than killing them!), and Silurians, and Nefertiti and Amy being awesome all over the place. <3333333 A happy-making ep.
