That was interesting! I'm still not terribly keen on the father-son relationship being the be-all, end-all of human contact (it's important, sure, but there are other ways to relate to people, I promise!), but this ep was mostly good.

I'm still dubious about the logistics of this plan that Walter and Donald/September cooked up (why do none of the rest of the team know ANYTHING about it? why did Donald wait forever instead of trying another way? how did Walter spend all this time with Donald that Peter and Olivia didn't know about?), but perhaps they will answer these questions later. I did like that we got a little more detail about the Observers' world, and that they do actually have a variety of conflicting plans in motion all at once, which makes up for a lot of their inefficiencies.

I did love that, when Donald pretty much says "we shall give Michael to the scientists and they will experiment on him and learn things!", Olivia doesn't get all scandalised at the idea that they will allow a child to be experimented on, but instead has the very natural response of "holy shit, I might get my kid back" and finds that to be a positive thing. And I'm pleased that they addressed this idea that we will go back to the Peter/Olivia+Etta timeline this early on, and planted the possibility of doubt because Peter really might never even make it to that old if September isn't there to rescue him (I don't quite believe in this outcome, I have to say, but I am intrigued by the prospect of what they will have to do to avert this future/past.)

Still sad that Astrid keeps being left in the lab for unspecified reasons.

And that was a hell of a cliff-hanger! It's been bothering me that Michael is apparently so incredibly smart, but has nothing whatsoever to contribute to all this planning (because frankly, I give zero shits about an ability to feel all the emotions in a super special way, that is coupled to a completely flat affect and lack of interest in the world around them. That's simply not what I value in people.), and this move at least creates the possibility that he may actually have his own plan, or at least something going on inside. Still optimistic about the end of this show!
